How to Rearrange and Edit WordPress Admin Menu

Have you ever thought of managing or edit WordPress admin menu as per your requirement? You can add, rearrange and edit WordPress admin menu as you wish using a simple plugin. In this post, I will show you how to rename your admin menu to easily identify it when you open the dashboard.

You have to install the WordPress Admin Menu Editor plugin to use its simple drag-n-drop features. After you edit the admin menu, you can add icons or images to admin menu of your choice.

Install Admin Menu Editor Plugin

To install the plugin, go to Plugin >> Add New and search for the ‘Admin Menu Editor’ plugin. When you found the plugin, click the ‘Install Now’ button.

When you see the ‘Activate’ button, click on it to activate the plugin.

Rearrange WordPress Admin Menu and Sub-menu Items

After adding many features and plugins to your WordPress blog. You may find WordPress Dashboard menu items confusing and difficult to identify. That’s why you may want to arrange them in a proper sequence.

After the activation of the Admin Menu Editor plugin, go to the Settings >> Menu Editor.

Now, drag-n-drop the menu items in the required position as per your need. You can arrange every menu of your dashboard as you want.

You can also move the sub-menu item and arrange them in a sequential manner.

If you have any custom post types, you can easily arrange them on your WordPress admin menu.

Edit WordPress Admin Menu Name

You may require to rename the admin menu items to easily identify its features. The Admin Menu Editor plugin comes with a feature to edit the WordPress admin menu.

To edit the name of the menu, you have to click the indicated place as given in the image above. Select any menu item of your choice to rename it.

Change the ‘Menu title’ of the menu and click the ‘Save’ button to save the new menu name. After the page refresh, you can check the new name of the admin menu item.

Add Icons or Image to Dashboard Menu

If you want to make your admin menu items more visible, you can add an icon or image related to its features. You can use the same Admin Menu Editor plugin the add icons to your admin menu items.

Follow the simple steps and click the indicated places in the image.

Get Advanced options of the plugin

After renaming in the previous section, you have to click the ‘Show advanced options’ link as indicated in the image above. It opens the advanced features of the plugin contains adding the icon, CSS class, and Id.

To add the icon to the admin menu item, click the icon button as given in the above image. It opens a new window where you have to select the icon from the given list of icons.

The window contains many dash icons to select as the features of the menu items. Select the required icon to add it to the required menu item. Click the ‘Save’ button to finish adding the icon.

In addition to the icon for the admin menu, you can also add the small image of size 25*25. Add color image related to the features of the menu item and improve the look and feel of your dashboard.
