There are so many free blogging platforms available for the beginners to start a free blog. These free blogging platforms are wordpress.com, BlogSpot, Wix or Tumblr. These platforms are easy to use. But what if you want them to start your business or you want to make money.
If you want to create a blog for fun only, then you can use those platforms. But if you are serious about your blogging and want to make a business or want to make money. Then these platforms are not for you. You have to use self-hosted blog
Let’s say, You start a blog using the wordpress.com domain. Your domain name may be https://yourname.wordpress.com.
You can see here at the end of each domain you have to include the wordpress.com domain.
You cannot install WordPress plugin when you use wordpress.com with its domain name
This is the other problem you have to face when you use wordpress.com with the domain name. You cannot install WordPress plugin you want to add extra functionality to your blog.

Every time when I want to install WordPress plugin. I was wondering on how to install WordPress plugin. But now, I use these simple but useful methods.
Search and install WordPress plugin on dashboard
This is the simplest way of installing WordPress plugin
To know how to install WordPress plugins with this method, You should know the plugin name to search for it.
Login to your WordPress admin panel by using your admin username and password. Go to the location Plugin>>Add New. This page can be used to add new plugin every time you want to your blog.
step 1: Enter your search term keyword matching with the plugin
Enter your search term in the keyword input box. You have to put the exact keyword match with the plugin you want to install.
Let’s explain it with the example I used here. If you want to search for the plugin which can be used to order your post in ascending or descending. Then the keyword you should use is ‘post type order’. This will result in the list of plugins which can be used to sort order your post.
In my result. I got a plugin that can order my post in any I want.
This is an auto search process.
If you have an internet connection, then on entering the keyword, you will get some suggestions of the plugin. Find the plugin you want to install from the search results.
step 2: Click on install button to download your plugin
Before installing any plugin you should check and views the details of the plugin. Install only when you find the plugin useful for you. Remember to check the reviews of the plugins and the number of installation plugin have.
If the review is not good by the reviewers, then don’t install the plugin. This may contain some malicious code that can affect your blog.
After you find the best plugin for your blog website. Click on the install button.
On clicking on the install button, the Downloading process goes on. This process checks for the plugin and begins installing it.
A rotating animated image will appear. This will download the WordPress plugin for you. The upload location of the plugin is http://yourwebsite/wp-content>>plugin/.
After this process, your plugin successfully installed on the WordPress.
step 3: Last step is to activate your plugin
After successful installation of the plugin, You just need to activate your plugin.
Click on the Activate button of the plugin and wait for the process.
After a few seconds, your new plugin gets activated. Don’t forget to regularly update your plugin. A regular updating of the plugin can make your website more secure.
You can find your plugin in the list of activated plugins. The activated plugins will appear in the dashboard with the blue line strip, just to the left side of the plugin list.
A red strip to the left side means, plugin installed but not activated.

You can start configuring your plugin now. Go to the setting section of the plugin. To configure any plugin, you should know the configuration process. To use the functionality of any plugin, just follow the instructions given on the plugin page.

To delete any plugin, you need to click the delete button. A rotating animated image will appear and your plugin suddenly gets disappear from the list.
Download from third party site and upload on WordPress dashboard
The search and install method is the very beginner friendly method. But you can install only the free plugins using this.
If you want to install the premium plugin, you should learn download and upload method.
To use this method, you should have a downloaded copy of the premium or free plugin. A downloaded plugin is a zip source file format. You don’t need to unzip the plugin for this method.
Remember to check the review of the plugin before downloading it from the WordPress repository. This is important to make your blog secure. Select the best-reviewed plugin, check the details about the plugin and see the user experience with the plugin.
Login to your admin panel and go to Plugin>>Add New page. Follow the steps:
step 1: Click on the upload button
On the add a new plugin page, Click on the upload button located at the top of the page. This will let you to the plugin, upload source page. Retain a copy of the zip source file of the plugin for the next step.
step 2: Select your plugin source file
Click on the Choose file button and browse your computer. Select you to retain copies of the zip source file and click on the install now button.
This will begin installing the plugin for your website. Your plugin now automatically unzipped and its folder placed in the location http://yourwebsite/wp-content/plugin/. You can check your plugin is present in the location.
You have successfully installed your WordPress plugin. Go to Plugin>>Installed Plugin page and Follow the steps:
step 3: Activate your uploaded plugin
After you successfully learned how to install WordPress plugins and installed it. It’s time to activate your plugin to get it working for you.
Do all the configurations required for the plugin. The premium version of the plugin contains some extra features. Get support from the plugin provider and do all extra settings with the plugin.
How to Install WordPress plugins by using FTP
Use this method when you can’t install the plugin using the previous two methods. This method needs an FTP client to transfer your files from your system to server host.
Filezilla is the best FTP Client you can use every time when you want to upload files. You can download this software from file hippo website.
Download the plugin you want to install in zip format. Extract the zip source file and upload the folder in the location /wp-content/plugins/.
To upload your plugin folder using FTP, You need FTP username and password created on your hosting. If don’t create yet, login to your CPanel and create one for you. If you can’t create your FTP username and password. Contact your hosting provider.
step 1: Download and a uploaded plugin using FTP
Connect your server using the FTP username and password. Open the location /wp-content/plugins/ in the web server. Upload the plugin folder from your computer to this location.
This uploading process may take a few seconds.
This uploading process has successfully installed your WordPress plugin.
step 2: Click on install plugin button
After the uploading of the plugin to the web server. You need to login to your WordPress admin panel. Enter your admin username and password and click Login. Go to the location /wp-content/plugins/ and click for the Installed plugin page.
Here, you can find your installed plugin in the plugin lists.
step 3: Activate your plugin
The last step is to activate the installed plugin.
Now it’s time for you to go to the settings page and do all the configurations.
Which method I use to upload plugins for my website
I use the first method which is the Search and Install WordPress plugin method. It takes less time to get my plugin install successfully. This is simplest and beginner friendly method every blogger wants to use first.
However, This method is only for the free plugins available in the WordPress plugin repository. You can install free plugins using this method.
When I want to use the premium plugin, I use the download and upload plugin method. In very rare cases, I use FTP uploading method.
