The full form of the URL is Uniform Resource Locator. A URL is the location of the resource on the world wide web where you retrieve HTML web pages. Every website has a URL to identify it on the World Wide Web. You need a web browser to access web pages.
What are the Parts of a URL
The format of the URL is:
protocol://www.domainname/location/filename
1. protocol://
A URL contains protocols like http://, https://, ftp://, tftp etc. Protocol is the set of rules to make your website secure. You can access a website resource with these protocols at the start of the domain.
2.www
www stands for world wide web used at the start of the domain name, after the protocol. But in some cases today, there is no need to use it with the domain name. You can enter the domain name with its extension.
3. domainname
A domain name is the formatted text in the URL which is used to identify a website. For my website, the domain name is Tutorialdeep.com. A Domain Name System is used in place of the IP address to make it easy for human use. Tim Berner Lee is the man behind the naming convention of the URL. The IP address is the location of the host where the resources of the website stored. You can use DNS like com, edu, au, org, in.
com: is a standard extension you can use for your business blog. It is a top level domain name system.
org: : Non-profit community can use this for their website to identify them from the business.
edu: This is for the Educational Institutes. A college and university has its website with this DNS.
au: This is for the Australian website. You can this DNS to get traffic from australia. If you run a business in australia, your domain name ends with this name convention.
in: Indian websites use this name to identify them from others countries.
4. location
A location is a folder name to store the files in the world wide web.
5. filename
Files located inside each folder with the web extensions like html, css, js, jpg, mpeg.
html: HTML markup language file contains HTML codes.
css: Cascaded Style Sheet files contains styling of the web document.
js: Script files contains javascript, jquery codes. It is used to perform dynamic events in the webpages.
php: Contains hypertext codes which you cannot see on the web pages.
Graphic sources: The graphic sources present in the website like images, videos.
The browser interprets the codes to show text and graphics to the user.
